Mohlakeng protest: 11 more arrested, R28 open

The latest on the situation in Mohlakeng: Police say 16 in total have been arrested.

Police have confirmed that another 11 people were arrested following Wednesday’s protest action in Mohlakeng.

This brings the total number of arrests to 16.

The Herald reported on Wednesday, 30 May that looting, damage to properties, police shots, threats to media personnel and injuries were the order of the day in Mohlakeng. The situation has calmed down somewhat since midnight, and the R28 between Randfontein and Westonaria is now open.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, “All the arrested persons will appear in court on Friday.”
