Bekkersdal Police investigate an attempted murder

The 44-year-old victim was shot in his thigh.

The Bekkersdal Police are investigating a case of attempted murder after a 44-year-old man was shot in his thigh on Saturday 12 May, in the Tambo informal settlement at Bekkersdal.

Police said it is alleged that the incident happened when the victim and his wife went back to their house unexpectedly, after they realised they had left something behind.

“Upon their arrival, they were surprised to find the door of the house standing open,” the Police said in a press statement. The statement continued, stating that when the victim entered his house, he found an unknown man inside.

“He asked the man what he was doing in his house, but the man did not respond. Instead, he produced a firearm and fired two shots at the victim and then fled the scene.”

The victim was subsequently rushed to the Bekkersdal Emergency Management Services.

The Police are now asking the public to provide any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect. Anyone with information can contact them on 011 755 0000 or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
