Bekkersdal Police said they caught a man stealing a cellphone while visiting someone.
The incident took place on Friday, 4 May.
According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, it is alleged the suspect entered a house pretending to be visiting and after he left, the victim realised his phone was missing.

She added, “The victim rushed to where the suspect stays but he was nowhere to be found. A case of theft was reported to the police and the suspect was on the run until the investigating officer pounced on him. The suspect admitted to the crime and later gave back the stolen phone.
“He will be charged with theft and is expected to appear before the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon.”
Colonel Tinus Swart, Bekkersdal Police station commander condemned the buying of stolen property and urges the community to refrain from creating a market for the criminals.
He applauded the detective constable for attending to this case in a professional way and speedily recovering the stolen phone.
