Racers give it their all at Raceway

Racing enthusiasts once again gave it their all in the various categories at the Oval Raceway recently.

Spectators were in for a treat on Saturday, 24 March when a crowd of racers at the Randfontein Oval Track decided to make their races in the dirt count.

The drivers gave their best to secure a solid lead in the overall rankings. Every racer gave his or her all, but in the end only one could be victorious in each of the categories.

In the quad category for 450 Quads, Ferdi Klein took first place and Jolande Raubenheimer came second.

The 1660cc category saw some spectacular racing, but in the end Sam East won, with Ludi Schnelle taking second place and Steve Nel coming in third.

The next category to take to the track was the 2100ccs. In this category Gideon van Zyl took the winning place,Willie Nysschen came in second and Francois van der Merwe took third place.

In the Flexi category, Albert van der Westhuizen crossed the finish line first, followed by Pine Pienaar, and then Deon Coetzee, owner of Randfontein Oval Raceway, in third.

During the Supers Go Karts category, Hennie Strydom took first place, with Kaylee Robbertse second, and Yolande Louw third.

In the Hot Rod category, Pierre Lubbe took the crown, while Martin Nel came second, with Kevin Barker not far behind.

In the Kiddies category, great racing was seen and Marko le Roux happily came first, and Jakes Jacobs came in second. Shaune van Wyk followed in third place.

Then it was time for the Ninjas to strut their stuff. Martin Nel took first place, Johandre Engelbrecht took second place and Deon Coetzee Jnr took the third position.

The Side Cars are always fun to watch and in that category Kallie Britz and Simoney Barkhuizen won, with Konrad Britz and Wayne Pretorius in second place.

Jan de Bruyn won the 8V Midgets category where Franco van der Walt came second. Shaun de Koker came third. Tiaan Flynn won the 16V Midgets category.

The Stock Rods race was won by Juan Pienaar and Morne Waltets.

The next big event, the Ben Morgenrood Flexi Challenge, will be held on Saturday, 7 April. By all accounts, it is going to be huge.
