JUST IN: Grandfather shot in Helikon Park home

A grandfather was transported to hospital in a critical condition following an alleged accidental shooting in Helikon Park yesterday.

A grandfather had to be transported to hospital in a critical condition after he was allegedly accidentally shot in his Helikon Park home yesterday, Tuesday, 3 April.

ER24’s Russel Meiring said paramedics received the emergency call at 7.10am and immediately responded.

“Upon arrival, paramedics were led into a bedroom in the home. An elderly man was found lying in his bed.

Paramedics assessed him and found that he had sustained a gunshot wound to his head, leaving him in a critical condition.

“Treatment and advanced life support interventions were immediately initiated in an effort to stabilise his vital signs. Once treated, the man was airlifted by the ER24 Oneplan Medical Helicopter to Baragwanath Provincial Hospital for further treatment.

“The exact details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.”

The Herald received more information regarding this tragic incident on Wednesday morning – a family friend has advised that the patient is in a stable condition.
