Two jailed for man’s murder

Two men got 15 years each for stabbing and killing another man in Randfontein last year.

Rethabile Phera and Aphelele Nodzenga, both aged 28, have been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment each for the murder of a man in Bekkersdal in June last year.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson confirmed that the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court recently concluded the murder case.

She said Bonginkosi Makhaveli, 28, was stabbed and killed near a tavern in the Holomisa section of Bekkersdal on 16 June 2017.

“It is alleged that Constable Mpho Khanye was on duty when he received a complaint about a murder at Mandela Clinic. He proceeded to the scene and a case of murder was registered.

“Preliminary investigations into the matter and community involvement saw the arrest of two suspects and seizure of the murder weapon shortly after the incident. The two accused were denied bail and through investigation led by detective Sergeant Sevha Shiviti, they were both convicted and sentenced.”

Colonel Abraham Nkhwashu, the Bekkersdal Police station commander commended the members for the job well done and also thanked the community of Holomisa for their contribution with regard to the arrest.

“This is how we should work to ensure perpetrators are brought to book and justice is served,” he concluded.
