A 26-year-old man was sentenced to R10 000 or five years’ imprisonment for a child abuse incident that occurred in April this year.
“It was alleged that a seven-year-old girl was assaulted with a stick and thrown on the ground by the mother’s boyfriend,” said Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson.
Captain Ernst further said the girl had to receive medical attention and was transported to a local hospital.
The boyfriend was arrested shortly after the incident and the case was heard in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court.
The sentence was welcomed by the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Kathy Segotta.
