Chop-shop suspect arrested

Zuurbekom man arrested in possession of a car stolen in Pretoria.

A 26-year-old suspect was arrested on a plot in Zuurbekom on Wednesday, 22 November, for being found in possession of a stolen motor vehicle from Pretoria.

Bekkersdal Police detectives made the arrest at about 2.30pm.

“It is alleged that Constables Nhlanhla Ngobeni and Sikhumbuzo Myeni were conducting their routine tracing duties when they received information about a possible stolen vehicle at a certain plot in Zuurbekom,” said Sergeant Linkie Lefakana, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson.

The police proceeded to the plot, where they discovered more vehicle parts and a stripped Honda Civic.

Investigation revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen in Pretoria. The suspect could not explain why he was in possession of the stripped vehicle.

He was immediately placed under arrest. He will be charged with being in possession of a stolen motor vehicle and is expected to make a brief court appearance within 48 hours.

The station commander, Colonel Abraham Nkhwashu, commended both constables for their dedication and good work and also thanked the community for the information that led to the arrest.
