On 17 November, 31-year-old Mhokozisi Ntunzela was convicted by the Westonaria Regional Court and sentenced to 15 years’ direct imprisonment for the murder of 26-year-old Michael Xaba.
The murder was committed on 31 October 2015 at about 6.30pm.
“It is alleged that Xaba was at his home when he was accosted by Ntunzela. It is alleged that Ntunzela woke up and started accusing the deceased of insulting his girlfriend,” said Sergeant Linkie Lefakane.
He took out a knife, stabbed the deceased and then ran away. A case of murder was reported and on 9 November 2015, the suspect was apprehended by detective Constable Thembinkosi Mapoloba at a hiding place at the Cooke 3 mine.

He was denied bail while a thorough investigation led by detective Sergeant Phillimon Shiviti was conducted. He was subsequently convicted and sentenced.
The station commander, Colonel Abraham Nkhwashu, commended the member on his dedication and a job well done, and congratulated the prosecution team for good work.
