Fit and ripped at 62

People people should know their body, know how hard and far they can push themselves, and know when to stop.

Andrew Koet, 62, is a local gym owner, fitness fanatic and an inspiration to others.

Andrew believes that many people in his age group are not interested in doing any form of exercise. His aim is to inspire young and old to take part in any suitable sport. He said if he could do it, everybody else could too.

“I believe that obesity is taking over the world,” said Andrew.

At his gym he offers aerobics, spinning, weight training and Tae Bo sessions on a daily basis. His philosophy is that many “dark things” in life can be avoided by exercising.

André started bodybuilding at a young age. A few weeks ago he participated in the Mr and Miss West Rand Bodybuilding competition and walked away with the silver medal in his age group. In 2016 he competed in the Masters Division – participants over 60 years old – of the International Bodybuilding and Fitness

Federation (IBFF) and walked away with the gold medal. Earlier this year he participated in the same competition and managed to secure the bronze medal.

He believes everybody should exercise between 30 and 45 minutes per day and follow a healthy diet.

“Even disabled people can exercise. One does not need to lift heavy weights,” said Andrew.

He added that people should know their body, know how hard and far they can push themselves, and know when to stop.

His goal is to expand his business to enable him to help and inspire more people. He believes that exercise makes one feel alive and happy.
