Female dog and her four puppies rescued

A female dog and her puppies were rescued on a school premises in Greenhills.

On Thursday 5 October a female dog and her puppies were rescued on a school premises.

A Krugersdorp Rescue centre, Friends of Rescued Animals (Fora) received a call from a local man called Ronnie on Thursday. The school principal was concerned about the growling and barking coming from underneath the prefab class.

The local SPCA was called out, but unfortunately they did not have much space to work with because the mom and her puppies were underneath a very low building.

“Time was running out for the pups,” said Fora manager Linda Scrace on her social media page.

Juandre Clark, Nabeel Banoo and Linda went to investigate in the pouring rain, ankle-deep in water.

“There was just no way we would get Mom out from under the low prefab base physically, so I gave Cora Bailey a call to borrow her trap. She kindly offered to bring it to us,” said Linda

Once the trap was set up the rescue team waited for approximately half an hour before Mom ventured in. The only thing left to do was to get the puppies out. Nabeel and Moses from the Randfontein dumping site crawled into the tiny spaces to catch the puppies.

After getting three pups out, they could not see any others and the rescue team returned home.

“A very angry Mom in the trap turned out to be quite a pushover once we got her out. She was vaccinated, Exspotted and dewormed without as much as a snap or a growl,” said Linda.

The same afternoon Ronnie phoned the rescue team again and a fourth pup had made its appearance from the narrow, dark cave under the prefab. The team went out immediately and collected it.

The same day all four pups got their first vaccination, and tick and flea treatment. The mom and puppies were settled in for the night and the rescue centre decided to start deworming the puppies the following day. Linda said on her social media page that she expected to see worms the following morning but did not expect to see it that severe.

She thanks everyone who was involved in rescuing the dogs.
