Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, confirmed to the Herald on Tuesday that Kolesky passed away before paramedics arrived on scene. He added that the child was thrown from the bakkie, sustaining serious injuries, and was taken to Lenmed Hospital by ambulance. There it was decided he should be airlifted to another hospital for treatment, but sadly, he passed away before that could be arranged.

“The driver of the other vehicle was fortunate enough to only sustain minor injuries,” Meiring said.

On scene the following morning, the Herald met up with local traffic department officials, who mentioned that Lazar Avenue has claimed many lives.

Kolesky was regularly seen at both the Randfontein Oval Track and Pigeon Club. According to a family member, he lived his whole life in Randfontein. He matriculated at Randfontein High School (RHS) and worked his entire career on a mine. He was also a well-known sportsman in his early years, and was part of the local pigeon club, flying pigeons for more than 40 years. He loved his pigeons and also bred them.
