Bootha Agrigultural Holdings — “It’s been a long wait, but we are truly grateful”.
This is the general view of two councillors, Alwyn van Tonder (Ward 3) and Peter Dick (Ward 9) as Ventersdorp Road is being repaired by the Rand West City Local City Municipality – in response to a request they made six years ago, in 2011.
When the Herald arrived on Ventersdorp Road on Monday, 31 July, machines were running loud and proud and municipal workers were hard at work with one goal in mind – to fix the road up to the point where the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport takes over.
According to Dick, “This one of the mainstream entrances to Randfontein and it’s wonderful to see the road finally being seen to.”
Van Tonder added that they want businesses to flourish in Randfontein and if the roads are maintained and well-looked after, new businesses will definitely be encouraged to open.
Dick continued, saying, “The Ventersdorp Road past Sungate Farms was disintegrating, and potholes were a huge problem. In the past the road has only been patched, which did not solve the problem. Now, they are removing the old tar and starting from scratch.”
Both councillors said they see this as a very positive sign, and hope that other roads, for instance Elizabeth Road, will soon receive the same attention.
“The roads that get fixed must also be maintained in future,” Van Tonder said.
