417 arrests: Shocking case of boy, 12, raped by young man

Youngster caught raping a 12-year-old boy in Westonaria among 417 arrested in just one week in the West Rand.

Police in the West Rand Cluster secured 417 arrests last week, among them the shocking case of an 18-year-old man raping a 12-year-old boy in Westonaria.

Other arrests include those for theft, burglary,assault and robbery. Police initiated arrests for offences under the Liquor Act, driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of drugs, and possession of stolen property. In three instances, unlicensed firearms and ammunition were seized and the suspects arrested. Quantities of stolen property were also recovered. The largest of these recoveries was a hijacked truck and its cargo, consisting of liquor worth an estimated R1,2 million.

The West Rand Trio Task Team and Tarlton members also arrested first one and later four more suspects in connection with an attack on a dairy farm in the area. They also recovered a stolen firearm and most of the stolen property.

“Randfontein Police, with the assistance of other law enforcement officers, arrested five armed robbers shortly after they committed a business robbery,” said Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson.

The Carletonville Police apprehended 20 persons for possession of gold-bearing material.

The West Rand Cluster commander, Major General Anna Mateisi, expressed appreciation towards all members of the West Rand Cluster.

“You continuously adhere to the Police Code of Conduct in that you bring perpetrators to justice, and your proactive actions prevent crime,” she said. She also said that West Rand police members deserve the credit due to them.
