Drunk driver also caught with drugs

Man driving under the influence with five others in the vehicle also caught with drugs when pulled over.

Bekkersdal Police thought they had caught a drunken driver, but also found him in possession of dagga.

The arrest was made in the early hours of Sunday morning, 16 July.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, “A 49-year-old man was arrested for drunken driving and being in possession of dagga after he was pulled off by Bekkersdal Crime prevention officers.

“Sergeant Mike Poonyane was doing his routine patrol duties around Bekkersdal when he noticed a vehicle with six occupants. He stopped the vehicle and requested the driver to step outside. The driver could not stand still, speak properly and smelled of liquor.

Poonyane then requested permission to search the driver. He found a small paper-wrapped package in the man’s trousers. Upon investigation, he discovered it contained dagga.”

The man is to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court within 48 hours facing two charges.
