One dead, six injured in head-on crash

A woman died and six other people were injured when a bakkie and light motor vehicle collided head-on in Carletonville early this morning.

In the early hours of Friday, 7 July, a woman was killed and six other people were injured when a bakkie and a light motor vehicle collided head-on the R510, approximately three kilometres outside Carletonville.

According to ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, ER24 paramedics received the emergency call at approximately midnight and immediately responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, paramedics found the bakkie and light motor vehicle on opposite sides of the road. The light motor vehicle’s engine was found lying in the veld some distance away.

“Upon closer inspection, paramedics found a woman lying outside the bakkie. Unfortunately, she had already succumbed to her injuries, and she was declared dead on the scene,” said Russel Meiring.

Another woman from the same vehicle, plus five other people travelling in the light motor vehicle were examined by the paramedics, who discovered that three of them were in a critical condition while the remaining three had sustained minor injuries.

After assessment, the patients were transported to various hospitals to receive the care they needed.

Further details of the incident are not yet known, but local authorities were on the scene to begin their investigation.
