Two high-profile murder cases in court

The family attended the court proceedings, and one of them informed the Herald on Friday afternoon that the trial will start on Monday, 7 August 2017.

The relative who was arrested in the murder case of the 63-year-old man found in a shallow grave in Pelzvale ,will appear in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court today.

This morning, the Herald spoke to a friend of the family, who said they will not be attending the court proceedings.

The Herald confirmed on Tuesday, 6 June, that the 34-year-old man who has been arrested in the Shallow Grave murder case in Pelzvale is related to the victim. The suspect appeared briefly in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 5 June on charges of murder. However, the case was postponed for seven days for the state to continue its investigations.

Forensic experts spent several hours exhuming the body, which was transported to the Roodepoort Government Mortuary for post-mortem purposes. Evidence found on the scene suggested that the body was that of the 63-year-old man who was reported missing in that area on 28 April.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police’s spokesperson said this cannot be confirmed yet as forensic evidence is still being processed and the outcome is unknown.

In another murder case, the ex-husband of 37-year-old Candice Fritz appeared in the Johannesburg High Court on Friday, 9 June.

The family attended the court proceedings, and one of them informed the Herald on Friday afternoon that the trial will start on Monday, 7 August 2017.

During the night of 13 to 14 November 2016, Candice Fritz, the mother of two young children, was found murdered in her car.

Randfontein Police arrested her ex-husband on the morning of 14 November and charged him with her murder.

He is facing charges of rape and murder, which are Schedule 6 offences.
