It’s indigent registration time

Those who have registered before are required to re-register.

Are you a member of an indigent household? It’s time to (re)register.

Sina Erasmus, DA Ward 4 councillor and Peter Dick, DA Ward 9 councillor recently visited the Friendship Haven old age home in West Porges to register some of the town’s elderly on the system.

She said those who have registered for indigent benefits before need to re-register as per the two-year registration rule.

The minimum threshold to qualify as an indigent household was increased by R800 since last year. Sina said any household that earns R4 000 or less per month can apply for indigent benefits.

Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) subsidise electricity, water and refuse removal for indigent households.

When registering, you need to have the following documentation with you:

• A copy of the identity document (ID) of each working person in the home
• A bank statement of each working person in the home
• A municipal account
• A South Africa Social Security Agency (Sassa) statement
• A death or disability certificate where applicable

For more information about the indigent programme or to submit your documentation, contact Sins on 084 580 5105.
