A Krugersdorp man of unknown age was convicted and sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl.
Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police’s spokesperson, said the crime was committed in September, 2015.
She added the 6-year-old alleged the man had raped her while she was asleep in her house. A case was later opened and the suspect was apprehended.
The matter was then investigated by Constable Mandla Khuse from the Family Violence, Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS).
“The accused was sentenced to effectively serve 15 years’ imprisonment. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm,” Ernst said.
The FCS Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Katy Segota, applauded Constable Khuse for the excellent investigation of the matter.
“Justice was served for the victim and the member ensured that the innocent was heard,” Segota said.
