Man shot dead at Westonaria mine

Police investigate fatal shooting of a 49-year-old man at Kopanang Kloof Mine in Westonaria.

A 49-year-old man was shot dead near his hostel at the Kopanong Kloof Mine last week.

Warrant Officer Raymond Sebonyane, Westonaria Police’s spokesperson, confirmed that a murder took place at the Kopanong Kloof hostel at about 4.40am on Thursday, 20 April.

“It is alleged the man finished his shift and then went to his room at Kopanang Kloof Mine shaft 1. While he was at the gate of the hostel, he was shot in the upper body and died on the scene,” Sebonyane said.

The motive for what has been described as a ‘senseless killing’ is unknown. A case docket of murder is under investigation. Any person who might shed light on this murder is requested to contact the Crime Stop number – 086 001 0111. Information may be supplied anonymously.
