#ThrowBackThursday: Town’s monster pothole revisited

The Herald revisits what is known as the town's monster pothole. Check out video here and if anything has been done ...

Randfontein’s half a metre deep monster pothole in Randfontein South has been seen to by the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM).

The monster pothole which has no street name but is referred to as Main Road by Randfontein South residents.

The Herald reported on the matter on 19 January and according to Jennifer Stokes who initially brought the matter to the Herald’s attention, municipal workers were deployed the same day the article was published on the Herald’s website.

The monster pothole was filled with sand and stones in an attempt to make the road easier to drive on. Stokes said since it was initially filled, the municipality has returned top up sand on the road again.

While the road looks much better and is easier to drive on, sand is not a permanent solution for Randfontein South residents especially during and after rains because of a mud buildup which is hazardous to drivers.

Stokes said she has lived in Randfontein South for three years and it is the first time in the three years she has lived there that the municipality has come out to try and fix the monster pothole.
