Up to 29c/l more for petrol on Wednesday

Motorists warned to brace for another petrol hike from Wednesday, 1 February.

As of Wednesday, 1 February, motorists will be coughing up more at the pumps for their fuel.

The second petrol price increase for the year has been announced and is said to amount to 29 cents per litre for both 93 and 95 octane petrol.

In the diesel world, motorists will not be hit as hard – the price of diesel will only increase by 21 cents per litre for both 0,05 percent and 0,005 per cent sulphur grades.

The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin will increase by 17 cents per litre. Subsequently, the single maximum national retail price of illuminating paraffin will go up by 22 cents per litre.

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) users will be charged 21 cents more per kg.

The Department of Energy has said that one reason for the increase is the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin. The hike also comes after interesting developments in the Rand/ Dollar exchange rate.

The Department stated in the price increase announcement that the Rand had strengthened against the US Dollar from R13,87 to R13,60 on average during the period under review, in comparison to the previous period, when a smaller petrol price increase of 12 cents per litre occurred.
