Off-duty traffic cop killed in car crash

A woman was killed and three others seriously injured when their vehicle overturned on the N12 near the Fochville intersection outside Carletonville on Monday, 2 January.

Werner Vermaak, ER24 spokesperson said shortly after 7am, paramedics from ER24 as well as provincial emergency services arrived on the scene where they found an SUV lying on its side. All four women were ejected from the vehicle when it overturned.

One of the women, believed to be an off-duty traffic officer, was found with fatal injuries. Sadly, there was nothing paramedics could do for her and she was declared dead on the scene.”

Another woman sustained critical injuries. An emergency helicopter was called to the scene and she was later airlifted to a hospital in Johannesburg. The other two women sustained serious injuries. They were treated on the scene and rushed to a nearby hospital by ambulance.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet known.

Local authorities attended the scene.
