The Rand West City Traffic Police recently confiscated four bags of dagga with a street value of over R200 000 from three dealers, allegedly from Vosloorus.
The dealers tried to disguise the bags by wrapping them in blankets so it would look like they were transporting folded up blankets to wherever their planned destination was. Fortunately, traffic police officer Johann van Breda knew better than to take the blankets at face value.
The dealers were arrested by Van Breda during the newly established town’s largest roadblock to date. They were also found in possession of R10 000 in cash and have since been detained by the Westonaria Police.
Some of Gauteng’s and Rand West City Local Municipality’s big guns joined the officers on duty at the roadblock. The Gauteng Premier, David Makhura, as well as the Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, and the Rand West MMC for Public Safety, Jeje Legoete, were there to monitor the new city and to wish its citizens well on the road during the festive season.
The officers manning the roadblock came from various law enforcement disciplines, and included members of the Randfontein and Westonaria Police as well the West Rand Flying Squad and the K9 Unit. This goes to show that the Rand West City Traffic police and police are serious about prosecuting those who have no regard for the law this festive season. They promise that the roadblocks and police presence on the road will only increase as time goes by.
