She added that the collision took place at approximately 8.30pm. Randfontein Traffic Police Chief, Kenny Mampondo said they only managed to clear up the scene after 11pm the same night.

The 28-year-old man was apparently driving a black Toyota RunX towards Soweto on the R559. He allegedly hit a stationary light delivery vehicle (LDV) which appeared to have been waiting to turn right into Cook 1.

“The driver of the RunX was killed instantly, while the other driver was seriously injured and was subsequently transported to a local hospital for medical treatment,” Ernst said.

The body of the RunX driver was trapped inside his vehicle.

“The local EMS and traffic department struggled for hours to free the trapped body, and the road had to be closed for the best part of the evening,” said Ernst.

The Randfontein Police are now investigating a case of culpable homicide. “Witnesses to the incident are requested to contact the Randfontein detectives on 011 278 8100,” Ernst said.
