JUST IN: 12 years jail for murderer

Xhosa Ncangisa sentenced to 12 years in jail for victim's murder.

Xhosa Ncangisa, a 23-year-old man was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for killing a man by stabbing him in the neck police confirmed.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson said the murder took place on 6 February this year in Mohlakeng, extension 11.

Ernst said a fight broke out between Ncangisa and the 28-year-old victim outside a shebeen in the area before Ncangisa fatally stabbed the victim and fled the scene. Witnesses to the murder told Police the suspect was well-known in the area but they could not provide Police with his name.

Warrant Officer Bongani Mpete, the investigating officer eventually tracked down the Ncangisa on 12 February. He was arrested and charged with murder.

After various court cases, Ncangisa was found guilty on his murder charge and was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment. In addition, he was declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The Randfontein Police congratulated Mpete for his effort and dedication in seeing the case successfully through court.

Police have also applauded the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for the successful conclusion of the case over which magistrate Ettiene van Niekerk presided and Adèle Britz prosecuted.

“Commitment and dedication resulted in the successful conclusion of this murder.

Congratulations to all involved in the case. This just serves as a reminder that Randfontein Police will do everything in their power to rid the streets of the criminal element,” Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela, Randfontein Station Commander said.
