Athletes represent R’fontein in Durban

The Boabab Athletics Club is making strides in the athletics world.

The Boabab Athletics Club did the town proud during a recent inter-provincial athletics meeting in Durban.

Five athletes from the club, headed by Ofentse Ntibane, participated in the Track and Field Sub-Youth Inter-Provincial Athletics Meeting at Kings Park Athletics Stadium in Durban. The competition took place on Friday, 11 to Sunday, 13 November.

The club has very little resources at their disposal, especially training facilities, but they still managed to place in top positions at the prestigious competition.

Results:

• Diedre Bata – 12th in girls U/9 (60 metres)

• Lesibe Dikgole – 4th in boys U/9 (60 and 80 metres)

• Buhle Ndlovu – 4th in boys U/10 (80 and 100 metres)

• Bokang Mabote – 2nd in boys U/11 (1 200 metres)

• Lerato Dibaba – 14th in girls U/12 (800 metres)

Even though they did not walk away with a gold medal this time around, for the athletes as well as their coach, Ofentse, participating in the competition was an achievement in itself.

It was a good learning experience for their young athletes, especially those who have never competed outside Gauteng’s borders, in order to grow into the athletes of tomorrow who will continue to hold the town’s name high.

For more information on the club, Ofentse can be contacted on 074 562 7733 or via email to ofentse9@gmail.com.
