Car-jamming criminal put behind bars

Car-jammer sentenced to two years in jail – Police.

The Randfontein Police have managed to put a carjacker behind bars after an intensive investigation.

Detective Constable Jabulile Simelane, one of the station’s finest secured the conviction of a criminal found in possession of car-breaking implements as well as stolen property.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, the suspect was found by Constable Mundalamo in August of this year while conducting routine patrols.

The suspect was found in Village Street near the Randfontein Central Business District (CBD). The suspect was searched and was found in possession of a GPS which he could not account for as well as a remote device suspected to be used to jam locking mechanisms on vehicles.

“The suspects was arrested, the case was thoroughly investigated and the accused was charged with both possession of car-breaking implements and possession of suspected stolen property,” Ernst said

The suspect was found guilty on both charges and was sentenced to a prison term of two years which was handed down by the presiding magistrate, Elbie Botha in Randfontein Court B. Mzolisa Madolo prosecuted on behalf of the state.

Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela, Randfontein Police Station Commander was impressed by the outcome and congratulated both the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) as well as Simelane on their success.

“Your efforts are noted and impacts positively on the crime in Randfontein. Keep up the good work,” Manamela said.

Even though the accused is behind bars, Police stress that motorists should still be vigilant when it comes to locking their cars.

“It is again stressed that motorists please ensure that the vehicle is properly locked when using a remote to lock a vehicle. Rather stay at the vehicle and test the lock by pulling the door handle. It is a precautionary measure that will ensure that the locking system is not jammed from afar,” Ernst said.
