Cop allegedly assaults man – several citizens arrested

Police to investigate a case of a local police officer allegedly assaulting a community member on R28.

A family is outraged after a loved-one was allegedly assaulted by local police on the R28 between Randfontein and Krugersdorp, on Sunday, 13 November.

The Herald has received both a video and an audio of the commotion. The family claimed one of the officers allegedly got physical with an occupant of a vehicle. On the video one can clearly hear a woman getting highly emotional during the incident.

The Herald forwarded the video to Captain Appel Ernst, the Randfontein Police spokesperson. On Monday morning, she confirmed a number of people were arrested. The matter is being investigated and is sub judice, and she is not in a position to make any comment.

The complainant claims police tried to pull them off the road and when they refused to co-operate, the police pulled up in front of them, forcing them to stop.
