Woman, 52, forced into car and robbed

Woman in her early 50s robbed at knife point after withdrawing money at a bank in the CBD.

A 52-year-old woman was robbed at knife point after withdrawing money at a local bank in the CBD.

The incident took place at approximately 12 noon on Friday, 21 October, said captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson.

She added the victim allegedly withdrew a substantial amount of money from Capitec Bank in Sutherland Street and as she approached her vehicle, which was parked on Porges Street, two unknown men confronted her.

They threatened her with a knife and forced her into the vehicle. They took the cash as well as her cellphone and fled,” Ernst said.

Since the incident, the Randfontein Police have issued a warning to the public regarding withdrawals, especially those involving a large amount of money.

“The Randfontein Police cannot stress the importance of not withdrawing large amounts of cash, but to rather do electronic transfers,” Ernst said.
