ADT urges residents to keep safe

It is no secret that a lot of residential areas are being targeted even in broad day light.

With school holidays being upon us, ADT Security urges residents to tighten their security measures in order to help alleviate the risk of having criminals doing as they please in people’s homes.

In line with this, ADT Central region managing director Clive Humphrey advises people to explore all safety measures to ensure that their alarm systems are on par.

“It is no secret that a lot of residential areas are being targeted even in broad day light and we read all about it in the media.

“In order to avoid becoming part of the statistics, residents need to do their bit to ensure that they do not become victims of crime.

“Although one cannot live life looking over one’s shoulder, it is sometimes as simple as ensuring that your alarm system is in good working condition,” says Humphrey.

He adds that in some instances, people become victims of crime owing to negligence.

“Like all household appliances, alarm systems also need to be tested at least once a year to ensure that they are working properly.

“I would advise residents to check if their alarm’s battery is in working order and if not, they should not hesitate to report it to their service provider.

“Should you wish to go on vacation, inform your security company of your plans as well so that they can make arrangements to ensure that your home is safe.

“Be discreet when packing your clothes into your car. If possible, do so behind closed doors because you can never know if a criminal is watching you.

“Never leave a voice message on your answering machine stating that you are on holiday. Some people might see it as an opportunity to break into your property,” says Humphrey.
