This week, it's time to get to know ...

Meet this week’s Randfonteiner – Kamohelo Tsotetsi, also known as Scamto or Xhi.

Kamohelo is 25 years old and has lived in Randfontein his entire life, specifically in Mohlakeng.

He studied Public Relations at the Vaal University of Technology and currently works at the West Rand District Municipality (WRDM). He is responsible for communications at the WRDM.

Kamohelo said he used to have time for many hobbies before his current on-the-go busy lifestyle but for now he likes walking and while walking, he catches Pokémon on Pokémon Go.

When asked about Randfonteiner tell-tale signs he said, “You know you’re from Randfontein when you smell peanut butter when you drive into town.”

When asked how he would give directions to his office from the Herald’s offices, Kamohelo, like so many other Randfonteiners, explained without mentioning a single street name. Instead, he gave a series of landmarks and curves in the road.

The standing joke in Randfontein is the way in which residents explain directions – usually without street names but using a typical Randfonteiner’s internal compass.

“I was born and bred here. This is my town,” he said.
