Photos and video: Latest on construction at Tambotie Mall

Randfontein will, in just seven months’ time, welcome the birth of Tambotie Mall.

During the Herald‘s latest visit to the site at the corner of Tambotie and Malan Streets in Greenhills, we saw that construction has progressed from laying the foundations and putting up the steel structure as reported in June this year, to this big, beautiful structure that made us think of the metamorphosis and transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly.

As the sun rises daily, construction workers can be seen working hard to meet the deadline, which is the end of April 2017. To date, massive progress has been made with wall structures, roof covering and the laying of floors in the shops.

On talking to Jimmy Pappas (developer assistant) and George Papavarnavos (developer) on site on Tuesday, 11 October, we discovered that Phase 1 is on track as expected and going according to plan.

“From week to week we’ll see massive transformations. The structure changes day-to-day and the construction is phenomenal. It’s like a child you see growing. The realisation of the dream is happening,” said Jimmy.

Once completed, both Jimmy and George believe that Tambotie Mall will offer the option of a first-class shopping mall, where consumers can go to save.

“There will be no need to go anywhere else. Why would you, if you could do your full-trolley shopping on your doorstep? Tambotie Mall will be a convenience for all the people and communities of Randfontein. In addition, it will serve the public as well as Randfontein’s neighbouring areas in a new era,” George said.

Jimmy and George agreed that transportation to and from Tambotie Mall has been adequately provided for, with space for a range of vehicles, from taxis to carts. There will also be over 1 000 parking bays.

According to Jimmy, “We want to empower Randfontein taxis and residents with the opportunity for employment at Tambotie Mall and over time, more than 1 000 permanent jobs and lots of other sub-contractual work will transpire. We’ve made sure this mall is going to be accessible to all the people of Randfontein.”

George added, “It’s not just our dream, it’s a dream come true for everyone.”

The Herald was left with the thought that things are only going to get better from here on, and the town has a whole lot to look forward to.
