Son held for his mother’s murder

Son shoots and kills mother during family dispute.

A middle-aged woman of 55 has allegedly been shot and killed as a result of a family dispute in Mohlakeng.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, the woman was killed at about 7.15pm on Tuesday, 20 September.

Ernst said the victim and her 38-year-old son were allegedly involved in an argument. She explained the argument took a turn for the worse, and the son allegedly took out a firearm and shot his mother.

“The victim fled the house but collapsed in the yard where she died as a result of bullet wounds,” Ernst said.

The suspect was later confronted by a neighbour and allegedly discharged more shots and fled the scene.

“[The] Randfontein Detectives started a full-scale manhunt to trace the suspect. All possible hiding places were visited,” Ernst said.

The manhunt ended on the evening of Thursday, 22 September when two detectives, Warrant Officer Chuene and Constable Masaole arrested the suspect.

Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela, the Randfontein station commander congratulated the pair for their perseverance and extended his thanks to the community who continuously supplied information regarding the suspect’s location.

“Without that partnership we would not have succeeded in apprehending the suspect so soon,” he said.
