Police arrests: Pupil arrested for murder of schoolmate

Police make 377 arrests in one week.

The recent West Rand Cluster crime prevention operations resulted in 377 arrests.

The operations took place in the last week of August and the first few days of September, said Captain Appel Ernst, the Randfontein Police spokesperson.

The operations can best be described as crime spring cleaning within the West Rand’s borders.

One of the most notable successes in the cluster was the arrest of a 19-year-old pupil in Khutsong, for the murder of a fellow pupil at Baderile High School.

In addition, three murder suspects were arrested on Krugersdorp’s infamous Sivewright Street.

Police also made various other arrests, for crimes including:

• Driving under the influence of liquor

• Illegal mining

• Murder

• Attempted murder

• Rape

• House

• Robbery

• Housebreaking

• Theft

• Assault

• Possession drugs

• Possession of stolen property

• Contravening the Liquor Act

• Trespassing

• Drunkenness

The West Rand Cluster commander, Major General Anna Mateisi, applauded the officers and community members involved in all the operations, and said,

“The West Rand Cluster is appreciative towards our communities for their assistance in arresting suspects in our area. The tenacity of our officers is also applauded.”
