District communicators visit various media houses.

Much has changed on the West Rand since the formation of the new Rand West City Local Municipality, which is why the District Communications Forum reached out to local media.

Numerous representatives from various government institutions visited the Herald’s offices for a meet-and-greet session with the district’s communicators.

According to Lucky Chiya, chairperson of the District Communications Forum, the objective of the meeting was to strengthen communications between government and media for the benefit of the West Rand community. They visited various media houses, including online, print, and radio media to get information out to the people.

Chiya stressed the importance of communication, as there are still many questions about the merger of Randfontein and Westonaria, and what it entails. Chiya said the Communication Forum will be there to ease restlessness and allay the fear of the unknown.

Members of the Police, Traffic Police, Home Affairs, and Departments of Labour and Health were present at the event. In addition, Rand West City, Public Protector and Yusuf Dadoo Hospital representatives were in attendance.

The representatives spoke as passionate officials who are ready for change on the West Rand as they introduced themselves and the organisations they represent. All of them see the recent local elections as an opportunity to make a fresh start.
