Child, 15, among three arrested for two crimes

The teenage suspects allegedly confessed to the crime.

Two teenagers and a young man just out of his teens have been arrested for theft and possession of stolen property respectively.

According to Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the initial theft took place at about 6pm on 31 July.

She said two suspects broke into a place of safety in Simunye Extension 4 and stole a TV.

A case was later opened and the Bekkersdal Police’s investigation led them to arrest two suspects aged 15 and 18. The two suspects later confessed to the crime and and gave police information about where the TV was sold.

After following up on the information they were given, police arrested a 20-year-old suspect who was found in possession of the stolen TV.

Lefakane said the two teenage suspects will be charged with theft and the 20-year-old suspect will be charged with being in possession of stolen property. The suspects appeared in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court in early August.

Bekkersdal Police station commander, Colonel Mbangwa Nkhwashu applauded the officers who made the arrests and said the arrests should serve as a warning that buying stolen property is a crime.
