Major upcoming challenge for West Rand mountain bikers

Next month, thrill-seeking mountain bikers will have the chance to show what they're made of.

Mountain bikers who find rough biking conditions thrilling will feel a type of unity with the new title sponsors when the Land Rover West Rand Silverstar MTB (Mountain Bike) Challenge takes place on Saturday, 10 September.

Land Rover South Africa, through its West Rand dealership, aims to add its off-road expertise to this race in Muldersdrift next month.

Riders will be tested in two events, over 20km and 40km respectively. The routes will be full of climbing challenges, but are also designed to be rideable and flowing throughout.

Speaking about their sponsorship of the event, Land Rover West Rand’s marketing manager Tammy Pepin said they were focused on creating awareness for their new dealership in Roodepoort.

“We have just moved in this week and would like to let the public in the area know that we are here.” she said.

She mentioned that the Silverstar race has long been associated with the Land Rover brand, which is capable of handling similar conditions.

“Our vehicles are fully equipped to handle the rugged off-road conditions that mountain biking brings. They have the strength and capability to ensure you and your prized bike make it to any destination.

“We also have a wide range of bicycle racks, roof boxes and other accessories that aid in the mountain biking experience.” Tammy said.

She said Land Rover SA had been a devoted supporter of various mountain biking races throughout the country, including the Cape Epic.

As a dealership, they are keen to align their annual sponsorships with those of the Land Rover brand, and to focus them on lifestyle, outdoor and sporting events.

“We believe we will add value by supporting the Silverstar MTB Challenge with our capable vehicles as well as with our trusted brand,” she concluded.

Wynand de Villiers, ASG Events chief executive said they were delighted to have the backing of the West Rand dealership.

“It’s absolutely stunning to have such a strong business entity on the West Rand throw its weight behind the oldest mountain bike classic in the region,” he said.

He continued, saying, “Events are becoming more and more dependent on significant sponsorship as we’re trying to keep entry fees as low as possible in this tough economic environment”.

Wynand said he felt the brands complemented each other and he looked forward to a long-standing relationship. “We look forward to working with Land Rover and presenting tangible value through the event,” he said.
