Pedestrian, 49, airlifted in critical condition

Netcare 911: The man was trying to cross the roadway when he was hit by an Isuzu bakkie.

A 49-year-old man is in a critical condition after he was knocked down by a vehicle along the R559 between Carletonville and Randfontein on Saturday over the weekend.

Chris Botha, Netcare 911 spokesperson said paramedics responded to a pedestrian crash at about 10.30am.

“Reports from the scene indicate the man was trying to cross the roadway when he was hit by an Isuzu bakkie.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the man lying on the ground with critical injuries.

“Paramedics worked fervently at the scene to stabilise the patient and after placing him on a spinal immobilisation device, they airlifted him to a specialised hospital for the care that he required.”
