VIDEO: Man critically injured, airlifted after car fire

It is uncertain what caused the car to catch on fire but a similar incident took place just the night before.

A man was airlifted to hospital after he had sustained critical injuries in a car fire. The incident occurred at the corner of Stegmann and Botha Streets in Randgate on Sunday (7 August).

According to an eyewitness the car with its three occupants caught fire at about 5.30pm while stopping at the intersection.

Community Police Forum patrollers where on scene first and contacted the Randfontein Fire Department for assistance. They arrived shortly afterwards and extinguished fire.

Paramedics assessed the occupants and the critically injured man subsequently was airlifted to Netcare Milpark Hospital by Netcare 911 helicopter for urgent medical attention.

It is uncertain what exactly caused the car to catch fire.

A similar incident took place on Saturday evening near Wheatlands Primary School when a vehicle caught fire without warning. Nobody was injured in that incident.
