Sweet bowls of fire!

Four of the Men's Fours teams who competed in the Gauteng Open Bowling Tournament last weekend were on fire and qualified for this week's play-offs.

The Randfontein Bowling Club recently hosted sections 2, 3, 4, and 11 of the Gauteng Open Bowling tournament.

Approximately 96 male players in the Men’s Fours teamed up to compete in this tournament. Pretoria High School Old Boys’ Bowling Club, Pretoria Municipals’ Bowling Club, Morningside Country Club Bowls and Bedfordview Bowling Club succeeded in beating all the other teams, and proceeded to the play-offs, which take place in Witpoortjie during the week of 18 to 22 July.

The winning teams in this section of the tournament will then proceed to the Semi-Finals and Finals, to be held at Discovery Bowling Club on Saturday, 23 and Sunday, 24 July.

Ansie Fourie, a committee member at the Randfontein Bowling Club, said the teams were in good spirit while playing against each other.

“The players’ enthusiasm was almost tangible,” she said.

She went on to say, “There was fantastic support between teams and good sportsmanship between players.

Some teams were on fire and exceeded all expectations by attaining high scores.”

The tournament had not previously taken place in Randfontein. The club has made great progress in the eyes of the Sables Bowling Association and is highly recommended by this association.
