Mandela Day: Tears of joy for pre-schoolers

'They are often overlooked, yet they are so wonderful.'

Members of an Netcare 911 team brought tearful joy to the children of Jabulani Pre-school recently.

On Mandela Day, three paramedics and their captain distributed a number of toys at the pre-school as part of their Mandela Day initiative. The toys were sponsored by KFC.

Sandri Appelgryn and Shané van Tonder, both members of the Open Door Foundation, identified that these children needed to learn more about the ‘heroes’ within the community, which led to the Netcare 911 team visiting the pre-school.

The children were also given a tour of a Netcare 911 ambulance, and their excitement was uncontainable.

“We went to the school to spend some time with the little ones,” Sandri said. “They are often overlooked, yet they are so wonderful.”

The Open Door Foundation also assists with the education of pre-school teachers.
