Man arrested after confessing to having drugs

The young man is due to appear in court soon.

A 24-year-old man was arrested after confessing to being in possession of drugs.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, spokesperson for the Bekkersdal Police, the incident took place on 10 July at approximately 11pm.

She said the suspect was walking in Mokome Street, Bekkersdal when Sergeant Seletisha from the Bekkersdal Intervention Unit was conducting his routine patrols.

Seletisha spotted the man and stopped him as he looked suspicious at the time, Lefakane said.

The suspect was searched and Seletisha found the man in possession of a transparent plastic bag containing a substance suspected of being drugs.

Lefakane said when the suspect was asked about the contents of the transparent plastic bag, he confessed that the substance was illegal.

Seletisha then arrested the man. He was charged with being in possession of drugs and is expected to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates Court soon.
