Stephan du Toit, conservation coordinator of the South African Hunter and Wildlife Conservation association urges community members not to try to catch the baboon as this could lead to serious injury of either a person or the animal.

Stephan is monitoring the situation through tip-offs, trying to pinpoint the exact location where the baboon sleeps.

“We cannot tranquilise the animal with a normal dart gun without seriously injuring it. We need to use a blow-dart gun that is only accurate within a five-meter shooting distance,” he said.

Report encounters with the baboon to the Herald on 011 693 3673 or to Stephan du Toit on 083 306 3441.
