Greenhills Circle gets an upgrade

Business owner encourages his fellow business owners to unite.

The pothole crisis in Randfontein has reached boiling point, with one business deciding to take road maintenance into its own hands.

The Greenhills Bluebottle Liquors outlet, which forms part of the Bluebottle Liquors Group, resolved to make a section of the Greenhills Circle fit for parking once again. Sections of the Circle’s parking lot have deteriorated over time – tar has disintegrated, creating potholes, and paving stones around trees have been lifted by the elements.

Manuel Pereira, Inland Managing Director of the Bluebottle Liquors Group, took it upon himself to fix the parking lot opposite Tony’s Meat Market. New tar was laid on the entire strip, and the paving stones around the trees were put back properly and painted.

Manuel is now calling on other businesses, both in the Circle and elsewhere in town, to do their part in making their respective areas something they can be proud of, and something customers will appreciate. “If we all work together costs will be less and the area will look so much better,” he said.

Manuel’s comments and actions come before Randfontein’s new Tambotie Mall opens its doors to customers. The mall could make or break small businesses in town, as it may set a high aesthetic standard with which small businesses will have to compete to attract customers.

The Greenhills Circle falls into Ward 6, which is under the management of Evert du Plessis, a DA councillor. He is pleased to see the public participation the Randfontein Local Municipality has been trying to foster in its residents.

Evert said fixing the Greenhills Circle parking lot has been in his Integrated Development Plan (IDP) for years. He welcomes Manuel’s move, but also feels the municipality should get on board and meet businesses halfway.

The game is on to see which businesses step up to the plate to make a difference to the way the customer sees them.
