More than 500 arrested in special operation

Police: We will do everything in our power to ensure a safe environment.

The West Rand Police Cluster made 507 arrests in just one week.

The special operations was conducted during the first week of June.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson said arrests ranged from robberies, attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as drug related crimes, driving under the influence and possession of stolen property.

One of the suspects arrested for robbery included a male suspect who allegedly overpowered a domestic worker in Carletonville. The suspect allegedly belonged to a group of three men.

All the suspects arrested will appear before all the West Rand Magistrates’ Courts respectively.

West Rand Cluster Commander, Major General Anna Mateisi applauded the efforts of all the officers who assisted in apprehending the criminals.

“The community in the West Rand can rest assured the police will do everything in their power to ensure a safe environment,” Mateisi said.
