UPDATE: Stabbed young mother dies in hospital

Boyfriend who allegedly stabbed her currently awaiting trial.

The young woman from Toekomsrus who was allegedly stabbed by her ex-boyfriend on 6 May has tragically passed away in hospital.

The woman, 22, was released from the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital to Leratong Hospital because she was in a better condition, just a day before her passing.

A relative confirmed her death and said, “My cousin has passed away this morning in hospital,” he said.

After the stabbing, the family was worried the woman might never be able walk again. After spending a few days in the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, the family was told by doctors that there was a chance she might walk again after physiotherapy; however, she passed away a day later.

The cousin explained that the ex-boyfriend was arrested on Friday, 13 May and detained for the weekend. He is currently awaiting trial at the Krugersdorp Department of Correctional Services. The suspect’s last court appearance was on Monday, 16 May.

According to the young woman’s cousin, she was stabbed by her ex-boyfriend after allegedly receiving death threats from him.

“She was on her way home from work. Her ex-boyfriend followed her home from her workplace and when he caught up with her, he stabbed her repeatedly,” he said.
