Rainbow Daycare’s double or nothing project

'When we send them to school it means that we're doing something right.'

In poker, you can double-or-nothing your opponent, but for Rainbow Daycare Centre’s Project May, you donate and their sponsor will double the donation.

Rainbow Daycare and a sponsor who wishes not to be named had a stroke of genius – Project May. The idea behind the project is that residents and businesses in Randfontein donate either R101 or R1 001 and the sponsor will double the amount and donate it to Rainbow Daycare.

Should any business donate money to the daycare, they will be presented with a tax certificate and it will also be an opportunity for businesses to partner with them during Project May as part of their annual Corporate Social Investments (CSI).

Rainbow Daycare is a daycare for disabled children of all ages. It is located on the R28 near Uncle Harry’s and is one of the few on the West Rand. According to Tatum Solomons, social worker at the daycare, as an NGO they struggle with funding and their monthly income makes it difficult to do everything they want to for their children.

These children are disabled and we really want to make their lives easier. We want to make them the best they can be,” Tatum explained.

She added their ultimate goal and biggest achievements are when they send their children to school.

“When we send them to school it means that we’re doing something right. These children have the potential to do great things.”

The closing date for the project is 31 May and the daycare is hoping to gather enough funds for improvements and perhaps more caregivers at the daycare.
