Bekkersdal on a drive to prevent crime

Spokesperson: Crime prevention is a better solution than making arrests.

The Bekkersdal Police are on a drive to prevent crime rather than making arrests.

The hardworking yet small station took to the streets on Friday, 22 April during a social crime prevention campaign. The campaign started at the Simunye extension 5 community home.

Officers then took to the streets, going from door-to-door to hand out pamphlets in a bid to educate residents about crime, how to report it and how to stay safe.

On numerous occasions, the station’s spokesperson, Linkie Lefakane has stated that crime prevention is a better solution than making arrests especially in cases where youth is involved and that people should rather be educated about crimes and what happens when you do a crime.

Not only did their social crime prevention campaign educate residents, it also created visibility in the area.
