Thousands of counterfeit goods confiscated

A total of 996 illegal street hawker's goods was confiscated and 1 588 counterfeit DVDs were found.

The Randfontein Police recently teamed up with the Randfontein Traffic Police to create high visibility in the area as well as enforce by-laws.

The joint operation was carried out on Thursday from 10am to 2pm in the Randfontein Central Business District (CBD) of which traffic chief Kenny Mampondo was in the lead.

The two law enforcement entities flooded the CBD with officers and vehicles, driving in a procession with flashing lights. The entities had a no-nonsense attitude towards crime and were ready to rid the CBD of anything that could endanger residents and anyone who broke the law.

During the operation two arrests were made. A total of 996 illegal street hawker’s goods was confiscated and 1 588 counterfeit DVDs were found. Both arrests were made for dealing in counterfeit goods.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson,

Similar operations will be conducted throughout the Randfontein area.”

Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela, Randfontein Station Commander, congratulated all the law enforcement officers who formed part of the initiative.
